Join The 2017 Pay Raise
 Challenge!

It’s that time of year when American human resource departments are getting started on their annual employee performance reviews and wage increases.  According to the Society for Human Resource Management, in 2017 employees across the country can expect to see wage increases of about 3%.
If we consider the average household income, which here in New England is around $65,000, then that raise works out to about an extra $37 a week. Doesn’t seem like much, does it? We don’t think of this as enough to really make a dent in our financial lives, do we? We just chalk it up to paying part of the electricity bill or a night of take-out with the kiddos. Then it’s gone forever.
But look at what happens when you put that raise aside instead of spending it.  If you save $37 a week, you’ll have an extra $1950 built up by the end of the year.  But that’s just the beginning…
In 2016 the average pay raise added about $35 to household budgets. If you met last year’s challenge where we matched pay raises with personal savings, your $35 a week is now $3640. Add your $37 a week raise to this and you’ll have $5,590 saved by the end of 2017. Or, continue the challenge, and match this $37 with your own $37 a week.
By the end of this year you’ll have $7,500!  Now that makes a big dent!
